Michelangelo’s youth was influenced by the patronage of the Medici family — in particular, Lorenzo Medici, (aka “Lorenzo the Magnificent”) who became his sponsor. Lorenzo brought Michelangelo to the Medici Palace to live, surrounded by sculptures and inspiration.
When the changing situation in Florence drove the Medici family to relocate, Lorenzo’s son (?) (???) was much less influential and capable than Lorenzo had been.
